Circular Economy for the Food Value Chain in the Baltic Sea Region

About the project

The project aims to take the first step towards a circular economy for the food value chain in the Baltic Sea region. This will be done by identifying the stakeholder’s challenges to meet their demands of recycled food and material for new products and to identify the main demanded waste streams.

This knowledge will be used to create innovative solutions to the challenges that now exists of using recycled food and material through either buying or selling recycled waste in a circular value chain. The results will be used to form a larger consortium that could facilitate the start of a circular economy in the food value chain in the Baltic Sea region.

Träff 1: Tillverkning

Vilka möjligheter har producenter att påverka materialåtervinningen av pappers- och plastförpackningar, till exempel vad gäller design, materialval, förpackningstyp, information till konsument på förpackningarna etc.? Vad sätter ramarna för vad som kan göras och vilka val som producenterna gör? Steget omfattar producenter i bred bemärkelse, det vill säga både tillverkare av förpackningar och fyllare. Ett antal förpackningsproducenter presenterar sin verksamhet och de utmaningar de står inför för att göra pappers- och plastförpackningar mer cirkulära.

Träff 2: Insamling, sortering och upparbetning – pappersförpackningar

Träffen anordnas på liknande sätt som den för plastförpackningar. I Sverige går en stor del av de insamlade pappersförpackningarna till Fiskeby bruk. På träffen får deltagarna detaljerad kunskap om hur pappersförpackningar materialåtervinns idag, och var utmaningarna och möjligheterna finns för att öka materialåtervinningen. Träffen äger rum på Fiskeby bruk utanför Norrköping för att kunna kombineras med ett studiebesök.
