About the project
A prestudy ‘Sustainable food chains’, led in collaboration between IUC Syd, Livsmedelsakademin and Packbridge, and financed by the Region Skåne explores the possibilities to reduce food waste by re-integrating residual flows from food production back into the system. The long-term aim of this collaboration is to strengthen the businesses in the region by strengthening their abilities to develop new sustainable food value chains and find new business opportunities.
The prestudy analyses good practice examples from two companies – Absolut Vodka and Culinar – that have already made their first steps in creating new value by utilizing side-stream materials from the food industry. Click here to read the story of how Culinar recovered the hidden value in Broccoli cultivation, turning the side-stream into a new food-grade product.
The study will lay the foundations for the establishment of physical and virtual development of Skåne’s regional centre for the circular economy. The application for the funding of the centre’s establishment is one of the deliverables for the ongoing pre-study and will be submitted in March 2022 to the EU ERDF – program for Skåne-Blekinge, Interreg South Baltic, and Horizon Europe.
