The vision of this project collaboration is to enable the transition from fossil- to bio-based thermoplastics that are produced sustainably and circularly. Competences built within FibRe will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus have a positive environmental impact and contribute to the achievement of the UN sustainable development goal SDG 12.
FibRe´s objective is to help answer the basic question: how can lignocellulose be modified as little as possible but still be thermoplastic? Lignocellulose itself is not thermoplastic but to achieve it molecular modification is required. Minor modifications cost less and are more environmentally friendly, and can also provide thermoplastics that are degradable.
