Advanced Packaging an opportunity for Europe
Advanced Packaging is one of ten emerging industries in Europe, defined by the European Commission. An emerging industry is defined as a broad field of economic activity connected through linkages of different types. They encompass and go beyond the boundaries of clusters, including also activities with less established linkages. These industries are seen as the breeding grounds in which new clusters are likely to emerge. Advanced Packaging is an increasingly important input to many other activities, from food processing to automotive supply chains.
Among the other nine emerging industries defined by the European Commission, you will for example find Logistics Services, Mobility Technologies and Digital Industries.
Recently we were informed that Packbridge, together with 4 other cluster organisations in Europe has been approved for a COSME¹ project under the acronym AdPack, with the title Future materials and products for advanced smart packaging. This is an important first step in Europe, to merge knowledge from areas such as packaging with food-, nano-, plasmatechnology and plastic to support the establishment of a European Strategic Cluster Partnership.
By focusing on the advanced packaging emerging industry, which is interrelated with nearly every industry sector, the aim is to have an impact on European employment, growth, competitiveness and innovation.
The project will start during the autumn.
