About the project
A prestudy ‘Sustainable food value chains, led in collaboration between IUC Syd, Livsmedelsakademin and Packbridge and financed by the Region Skåne explores the possibilities to reduce food waste by re-integrating residual flows from food production back into the system. The long-term aim of this collaboration is to strengthen the businesses in the region by improving their abilities to develop new sustainable food value chains and find new business opportunities.
The prestudy draws insights from cases in two companies – The Absolut Company and Culinar – that have already made their first steps in creating new value by utilizing side-stream materials from the food industry. Click here to read the story of how Culinar recovered the hidden value in Broccoli cultivation, turning the side-stream into a new food-grade product.
The findings of the prestudy will lay the foundation for the EU funding application for the establishment of the development of a regional centre for the circular economy. The application will be submitted in March 2022 to the EU ERDF – program for Skåne-Blekinge, Interreg South Baltic, and Horizon Europe.
