Gasporox and Mobergs Processkontroll launch GPX Inspection System
Two of Packbridge’s members, Gasporox and Mobergs Processkontroll, have recently been working together on a project. And the two companies can now present a non-destructive in-line gas analyser for the food industry.
To meet growing demands in terms of appearance and longer shelf life, there is increasing interest in packing food in a protective atmosphere. To ensure sustainability, the gas content in the sealed package must be quality assured, which today is only possible through manual and destructive random sampling.
When food is packed, the air in the packaging is often replaced with a gas mixture called modified atmosphere or MAP. Packing using MAP can help to inhibit the growth of bacteria in a food, thereby increasing the shelf life of a product, and help preserve its colour, flavour and texture etc. In order to achieve these effects it is important that the MAP has the right composition and that the packaging is airtight so that the gas is properly contained.
In the current situation, the gas in a package is usually measured by manual random sampling with destructive methods which mean that the packaging can no longer be used. With the Gasporox method it is possible to check the gas mixture in sealed food packaging with an instrument that allows the packaging to remain intact. The new GPX Inspection System, unveiled at Scanpack, automatically inspects every item of packaging in the production line, and indicates when a gas mixture exceeds preset tolerance values.
